Abstract | This thesis project focuses on the simulation of fuel elements used in French nuclear reactors. Recent research has highlighted the value of a damage gradient approach, using the Hybrid High Order (HHO) method, to model fracture. However, obstacles remain, particularly in terms of mesh adaptation to effectively manage crack propagation. In this context, the thesis project proposes to extend the Manta and A-set finite element solvers to include a gradient damage model in HHO, and to develop innovative mesh adaptation strategies. The aim is also to explore the possibility of explicitly inserting cracks along the paths predicted by the damage model. |
