AbstractThis thesis project focuses on the simulation of fuel elements used in French nuclear reactors. Recent research has highlighted the value of a damage gradient approach, using the Hybrid High Order (HHO) method, to model fracture. However, obstacles remain, particularly in terms of mesh adaptation to effectively manage crack propagation.

In this context, the thesis project proposes to extend the Manta and A-set finite element solvers to include a gradient damage model in HHO, and to develop innovative mesh adaptation strategies. The aim is also to explore the possibility of explicitly inserting cracks along the paths predicted by the damage model.
ProfileEngineer and / or Master of Science - Good level of general and scientific culture. Good level of knowledge of French (B2 level in french is required) and English. (B2 level in english is required) Good analytical, synthesis, innovation and communication skills. Qualities of adaptability and creativity. Teaching skills. Motivation for research activity. Coherent professional project.
